Feedback Thoughts

5 Tips for Taking Feedback Like a Champ
These articles have been very helpful for me. More personally than just for this class and its assignments. I have never been very good at taking criticism. My usual response is "ya ok." In a very sarcastic manner. I do need to start setting goals for myself instead of just assuming I'm doing alright at whatever it is. I also am very bad at when someone tells me they don't like something that I did, I immediately take it as they don't like who I am as a person (trait) and not a behavior (state). I tend to focus on the negative too and I don't tend to believe the positive things people say. I need to start being proud of my accomplishments and stop punishing myself for not being perfect.

From the first article, I took that praising someone too much over something they did could be bad. There was an example that said if you praise a child and say their art work is the best ever, why would they want to make more if that's their best? It does not encourage improvement. People will lose motivation to do better or even continue if they have already done a good job. The second article was very helpful with specific things to do when giving feedback. Try to make it about the story and its writer and not what you think. Make feedback specific to what you are talking about, but not so specific that the writer can't use that feedback and relate it to other projects.
