Review: Characters

It's so amazing how a single story can contain hundreds of characters (like I feel like the Mahabharata does) or can contain only one of two. There are so many endless possibilities when writing a story. I liked this graphic because it has examples of some characters we see a lot in stories (the hero, the old man, the girl, the faithful hound, the guards) but it also shows some really silly ones too (the floating skull, the dancing bear, the giant cat, the talking shrub). There are so many more possibilities out there for characters too (that kind of blows my mind). I think the first hurdle (and the most important part) to writing a story, is determining what characters you want to use and how you want to use them.

Review: Lesson Learned

I enjoyed this image because it can be applied to everything. I know a lot of the times I get frustrated from making a mistake and after it happens I just try to avoid the situation completely instead of learning from it and trying again. I seem to shut down if I don't get it write the first time. It is important to keep going and not give up even if you don't succeed at first. Try try again. Learning from your mistakes is a huge part of growing.

Review: Google like a boss

I never knew any of these tricks existed. I thought you just typed whatever in the search bar, and it gave you whatever it could find. This is going to be so helpful especially searching for things that might have multiple meanings but you want a certain thing, obviously, so using, like the example, jaguar -animal to find stuff about the animal and not the car. I will probably save this picture to my computer forever so I know how to do stuff like this.

Review: Erasers

I really enjoy this quote. It is extremely true. Everyone makes mistakes (cue Miley Cyrus). I believe that you learn the most from making mistakes. It's always great to be successful at something the first time, but if you make a mistake and learn from it, you now know exactly what not to do next time.

Review: Pause

Pause
I enjoy this picture because it is something I struggle with. I am one to jump to conclusions very quickly. Sometimes things will come out of my mouth that I immediately think "did I just say that?" I've gotten weird looks from people because things have come at wrong and sounded like something I didn't mean. I think it is very important to "think before you speak." Even though I'm 21 years old, I work on this everyday.

Review: Writing Flow Chart

This flow chart is similar to the Procrastination Flow Chart I wrote about in a learning challenge. It's like I have to go through all these walls or doors before I can finally buckle down and write. Maybe I'm just fighting myself because I don't want to do the assignment. I can never just sit down and start writing. I have to complain about it some first then I'll do it. Sometimes I wish I had the motivation and drive to just sit down and do it.

Review: Tech-Meditation

I'm not sure why but I laughed out loud when I saw this picture. In this day in age we are so involved in technology that sometimes we don't know anything else. Sometimes we need to take a minute and relax.

Review: Aware Wolf

I have enjoyed all of the funny spelling error pictures but this one really made me "lol." The one that really got me was the "aware wolf." Even in college I mess up simple spelling like except-accept, past-passed, etc. So the posts are sometimes a really nice helpful reminder!

Review: Breathe

My favorite thing from this week's course announcements was definitely the "breathing recalibration station" on Sunday, January 22nd. Always at the beginning of every semester I get really stressed from looking at the syllabi for all my classes and seeing all the work I am going to have to do. Sometimes I forget to take it one day at a time and just breathe. It will all work out. I've already been accepted into my dream school, as long as I pass my classes from here on out, I'm fine. I forget that. It's almost hard for me to really accept that I truly made it. I keep thinking "Really? Are you sure? That had to be a fluke." So I go back into my computer and find that acceptance letter (that I obviously saved) and then I relax. Is it bad that I almost can't let myself feel the satisfaction? Anyway, the breathing recalibration station helped me de-stress and remember that I have everything under control.
