Introduction to a Future Pharmacist

School Life

My name is Heather McFarland and I am a senior majoring in chemical biosciences. I am very excited to be graduating in May of this year because after that, the real stuff begins. I have been accepted into The University of Oklahoma College of Pharmacy and I will start in August of this year! Last summer I had to take the PCAT (you might be familiar with the MCAT) and then last semester I had to apply and then interview for a spot. For now I am hoping to do retail pharmacy when I get done in 2021.
Lots of pills, Pharmacy, Medications

Hobbies/ Interests

I honestly could not tell you the last time I picked up a book to read that wasn't required for school or wasn't a textbook. I love to watch movies, particularly scary movies and thrillers but I also adore all Disney movies (especially the classics from my childhood). My favorite place is Disney World! My favorite movie right now is Gone Girl (2014) but my favorite movie changes a lot. I also really enjoy listening to music. I couldn't tell you my favorite artist/band, my taste changes on a daily basis. I can say my Spotify has a lot of alternative music in it but I almost exclusively listen to country music while I am in my car. When it comes to my favorite food, I'd have to say nachos. I LOVE nachos. When I go to a restaurant, if they have nachos, there is a really good chance that's what I am getting. I am not a great cook, but I haven't tried all that much. I used to play tennis in high school and would love to play it more now. Even though I love playing tennis, I really hate to watch it. I watch a lot of OU football and watched quite a bit of NFL this last season because I was on a fantasy team (I did not do well at all). I have a cat at home; her name is Furry (I named her when I was 5 years old, don't judge), but she only responds to Kitty because I never realized I should probably call her by her real name when I was younger. She is all black with yellow eyes and she turned 16 on October 13th (which happened to be a Friday when she was born, spooky huh?).

I am looking forward to this semester and this class!

  1. Congratulations on your acceptance into Pharmacy school, Heather: that is a great achievement! Wonderful! And thank you for sharing your furry kitty with the class. I am a cat person too (we have two cats: a boy cat and a girl cat, both of whom we found as strays in the woods around our house — they are both great cats... I just wish they got along with each other ha ha)... and here is something cool: all the gods and goddesses of India have "vehicles," or vahanas, that they ride on, and the goddess Shashthi rides on a cat. Pretty cool! You can read about her here if you are curious: Shashthi . I hope you will enjoy the class! :-)

  2. Hi Heather! Your blog is really pretty and well organized! Wow, pharmacy school is a lot of work! I am graduating in May as well so I know the feeling of excitement! It is a lot of work getting and undergrad at OU and their science classes are NOT easy so that's fantastic already being accepted!! I can't remember the last time I read a book for fun either- always just textbooks. This class will be nice though because we will get to do some fun reading! Your cat is so adorable! I'm sure he gets a lot of your attention!!

  3. Hi Heather! Nice to meet you. Congratulations on getting accepted to OU’s College of Pharmacy! Hopefully I can get accepted this year as well and we can start our P1 journey together! How was the MMI interview? To be honest, I’m a little bit nervous because it’s so different from normal interviews where the interview gets to know you instead of you answering a scenario question. Like you, I also enjoy a variety of music. There’s no one genre I like—depends on my mood, you know? Furry is also so adorable and furry! I look forward to reading your stories!

    1. Thank you! My interview was actually pretty good! I was really scared too but I don't think it's as bad as people make it seem. The good thing is if you don't do well with one part, its okay because you can do better in the other ones! Most of my interviewers were students so they were really nice and understood how nervous everyone is! The couple faculty members that did interview me were extremely nice! Don't think you have to just talk the whole 10 minutes either, they will help keep the conversation going with side questions. You'll do great!

    2. Wow, what an interesting introduction. Congrats on being accepted into the pharmacy school and may the journey toward your dream be fun! Have you been to Disney World? If so, what is your favorite ride?

  4. Hi, Heather! Your hobbies and interest are… well interesting! Tennis is also a cool sport to play, but I completely agree with you in the bore of watching it. I, myself, am a Disney lover, and it’s good to know someone else out there! I’m also a little obsessed with Furry (AKA Kitty), and it’s so cool she was born on Friday the 13th as a black cat!! Anyway, I’m happy for you and your pursuit on your career! I actually have a few older cousins who are pharmacists, and I know it’s a lot of hard work. I hope you have an amazing graduation, and good luck in pharmacy school!

  5. Heather or shall I just call you Awere Wolf? I enjoyed reading about your college choices and I like how smooth your writing style seems to be. Congratulations on graduating, I wish you all the luck in your further studies and career.
We evidently share the love of horror movies and I too get nostalgic when I am flipping through the television programing and run across an old Disney Classic. From Poltergeist to The Little mermaid. I like it all.

  6. Congratulations on being accepted into OU’s pharmacy school! That is so great! One of my good friends is applying to the program in the near future and she is so nervous!
I am the exact same way with books. I would rather watch a movie than read a book. Have a favorite player on the football team?
I think Furry is a great name and she is adorable!
    Thanks for sharing!

  7. It is nice to meet you Heather and congrats on getting accepted into pharmacy school! I will also be graduating in May but with a degree in health and exercise science. I am going to grad school here at OU when I am done. I also love Disney movies, my favorite classic one would either have to be Hercules or Aladdin. My girlfriend and I play tennis all the time and she is better than me. I love the name Furry for your cat. It is a cute name and I have a cat as well, her name is Mya. Thank you for sharing.

  8. Hi Heather! I love Disney World! I’ve been there twice, and have experienced a new adventure both times. One thing I wish I could have done in high school was play tennis. I think it’s a lot of fun to watch and play. You can never go wrong with nachos. I think my favorite go to place for nachos is the Cheesecake Factory.

  9. Hi Heather!

Its so nice to meet you! You have great taste in movies! Like you, I love everything from scary movies to the happiest of movies (AKA Disney). Its so funny that your cat only responds to the name Kitty! I can totally see how that could happen! I really hope you bring her into your stories or your love of Disney! I have yet to see someone do a Disney story in Epics and Myth! Best of luck with Pharmacy school in the fall!

  10. Hey Heather, nice to meet you! Congrats on almost graduating and getting into your program! That’s a huge deal and I am sure that is a huge weight lifted off your shoulders! I like your honesty about books haha! I am the same way. Who doesn’t love nachos?! And Furry/Kitty is adorable. It’s pretty ironic that she was born on Friday the 13th!

  11. Heather, congratulations on getting into pharmacy school! I know that is no easy feat and I am sure you worked extremely hard for that. I very much related to you about not having read a book for something other than school. I’m hoping to be able to do that once I graduate. Your cat is beautiful but that’s pretty funny about her name. Nice you meet you!

  12. Heather it is nice to meet you! Congratulations on being accepted into pharmacy school at OU. That is extremely impressive and I bet it was not easy. Gone Girl is a great movie. That is one of the few movies that I read the book after I saw the movie. I recommend it! Also, your cat is adorable. My sister has a cat that looks almost identical to Furry. Good luck with your future career!

  13. Hi Heather! It’s really nice to meet you! Congratulations on being accepted to OU’s school of pharmacy. I’m sure you’ll do well there. I honestly love cats, especially black cats, so I was really excited to see your picture of Furry “Kitty”. He’s a lovely and spooky cat. Something kind of funny I noticed is that I almost share a birthday with him. I love Disney as well. Did you get the chance to see Beauty and the Beast? Anyways, I really enjoyed reading your introduction! Nice to meet you again!

  14. Hi Heather! It's nice to meet you! Congratulations on your acceptance to OU's School of Pharmacy. I absolutely love the HSC campus, and I have no doubt you will too. I had two friends of mine get accepted there for the upcoming year, so I am sure you will get a chance to meet them. How big are the class sizes for Pharmacy school? I am more of a dog person, but your cat seems so sweet! I wish you the best of luck with the remaining weeks until graduation, and your future endeavors! Nice to meet you!

  15. Heather, it 's so nice to meet you. Congratulations on getting accepted into Pharmacy school that is a huge accomplishment. I wish you the best of luck with your schooling and career. Furthermore, I can totally relate to the fat that you haven't been able to leisure read in a while because of courses. This is one of the biggest issues that I face. I really love reading and watching films as well.
